Make Mine Green! This baby step adds something rather than taking something away- now, isn't that refreshing? Most days
I have a protein shake for breakfast. This is usually a combination of crushed ice, banana, another fruit (seasonal or frozen),
hemp or chia protein powder, ground flaxseed and some kind of greens. The greens may be spirulina powder, barley grass powder,
wheatgrass powder, a mixed green powder or fresh kale or spinach. My two grandchildren, ages 1 1/2 and 2 1/2 love to help
me make the 'magic' drink and love to share it with me! The 'magic' happens when I let them toss handfuls of spinach or kale
into the blender and push the button to make it disappear! In the hot weather, I make popsicles out of this smoothie for treats. Why add greens to your daily routine? Fresh greens like kale and spinach are very nutritious, and the green superfoods,
are, well, superfoods! Spirulina, barley grass, alfalfa, and wheat grass are easy to find in powder form and will really give a boost to your nutrirional level. Please try this
simple step on the path to a healthier, more vibrant, new you!

one simple thingHere in Key West in nearly every tee shirt shop, and there are many!, there is a tee shirt which says "
The liver is evil; it must be punished!" The obvious is that we are to drink up!! But, honestly, most of us do punish
our liver day in and day out. Our liver has to filter everything that enters our system: pesticides and herbicides from foods,
mold and mildew that we may accidentally eat or inhale, toxins in our household cleaning supplies and our health and beauty
aids, etc. At least show your liver that you really do love and support it with this simple thing. When you get
up, before drinking that coffee, tea or juice, squeeze half a lemon into a glass of warm water and drink it. One more baby
step... If you're interested, find out why it works to detox here-

Lets talk baby talk And, by that I mean, let's start a dialog about those baby steps. I was thinking in yoga this morning about how difficult
it is sometimes to just begin something new, and how all you need to do is begin. There were some new students in class and
they were struggling so in the heat and humidity, but, they were there. So, first of all-show up! Be awake in your own life
no matter what you want to accomplish. If one of your goals is to clean up your diet-here is today's baby step: Go through
your cupboards and refrigerator and get rid of anything containing high-fructose corn syrup, and the next time you go shopping for food, read the labels and don't buy anything with high-fructose corn syrup. Simple, easy baby step. ga ga goo goo

New Year- New You?Are you so totally sick of hearing about making changes for the better in this
new year that you hesitated to even read my blog?? I know, it's everywhere: lose weight, grow hair, develop muscles, detox,
nurture yourself, create strong and loving relationships, and so on ad nauseum. I think that after a bit when the hype dies
down and we find ourselves back in the same well trodden path that we ended the old year in, we may see some reason to
actually pursue a positive lifestyle change. It can be so very daunting though, can't it? I received a text from my daughter
yesterday sharing the good news that she had reached a goal in her quest for losing weight. Twenty pounds!!! No, not since
the beginning of the year, since last summer- and this is my point: this is a sane and reasonable way to approach making a
positive change in your lifestyle. When you lose weight slowly you are much more likely to keep it off because for one
thing, your physical body becomes accustomed to the reduction of calories and doesn't shift into a 'famine' mode where it
clings to every little calorie you consume, and for another, you integrate the new way of eating and exercising into your
daily life rather than thinking that you are just 'dieting' for a while. It is easy to implement really enormous lifestyle
changes using this approach. Try going for a ten minute walk instead of committing to start a walking program. Try eating
one vegetarian meal a week instead of committing to a vegan lifestyle. Try not criticizing your spouse or loved one for just
one day, or just one hour!! Baby steps, just a little at a time, and the goal is realized without panic. I have
a new cooking class session starting next week- how about trying some vegan recipes?
